My name is Dan Engels, and I’m the Founder and CEO of Brontara.

AI has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I watched documentaries and science shows about artificial intelligence with a kind of awe — not because I understood the technology, but because it felt like a glimpse into a future I wasn’t sure I’d ever touch. It was magic from a distance. Beautiful, impossible, untouchable.

I never imagined I’d one day build something within that world — something creative, something meaningful, something that could genuinely help people.

I grew up in a home shaped by two cultures. My Dutch mother and Indonesian father didn’t just teach values; they lived them. Responsibility. Reliability. Self‑reliance. Respect for elders. Humility. Patience. Generosity. These weren’t words on a wall. They were the rhythm of our household — the way we spoke, the way we treated each other, the way we moved through the world.

As I got older, I realized those values weren’t just part of my upbringing. They were the architecture of my thinking. Dutch practicality taught me to be direct, honest, and unafraid of truth. Indonesian harmony taught me to listen deeply, to honor relationships, and to build systems that bring people together rather than push them apart.

Brontara was born at the intersection of those two worlds.

The name itself carries that heritage — bron, meaning “source” in Dutch, and tara, meaning “star” in Indonesian and Sanskrit. Together, they form a simple but powerful idea: the source of stars. A place where new intelligences can ignite. A place where ideas become constellations. A place where possibility begins.

I didn’t set out to build an AI company. I set out to build a better way for humans and machines to work together — one rooted in trust, clarity, and responsibility. Over time, that mission grew into a vision: to create an ecosystem of intelligent agents that collaborate, adapt, and help people achieve more than they ever believed possible.

And that brings me to Cahori — the first light of Brontara.

Cahori means Light at the Origin.
Cah comes from cahaya — brightness, illumination, the thing that makes everything else visible.
Ori comes from horizon — the edge of what we can see, with more beyond it.
Together, they form a single idea: the spark before the idea becomes real. The moment before clarity arrives. The light that shows you where to begin.

That’s what I wanted to build: an assistant that meets you at the start of your thinking, not after you’ve already done the hard part yourself.

Most AI assistants are impressive the first time you use them and forgettable the second. They don’t remember what you told them last week. They don’t know your family, your routines, your priorities, or the things you quietly care about. Every conversation starts from zero.

Cahori doesn’t.

It learns who you are — not in a surveillance way, but in the way a good assistant would. It understands your household. It understands your calendar. It understands the difference between something you mentioned once and something that truly matters to you. It carries context the way a person would, so you don’t have to repeat your life story every time you open a new tab.
